The Solar System Exploration Roadmap developed in 2003 for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD) charts the foundation, scientific goals, and strategy for future exploration and discovery. The eight science objectives outlined in the roadmap represent the most important directions for the exploration of our solar system in the coming decades. They will guide the activities of Solar System Exploration in fulfillment of NASA's goals. They also provide the context through which specific research objectives are formulated and define the science investigations and missions that address them.
